What happens at the multidisciplinary meeting? (MDT)

Modern cancer care uses the advantages of the combined advice of a team of specialists and other professionals who use their combined knowledge to plot out further steps in the treatment pathway. They use the skills of laboratory tests and imaging doctors to accurately describe the cancer. Treatment specialists from both surgical and non-surgical backgrounds then use past knowledge of treating similar cancer cases as well as the latest research to look at what treatment options are available. They are supported by specialist nurses, dietitians, speech and swallowing therapists and restorative dentists.

This forms the basis of advice that will be given at the combined clinic.
